Pojia Tsang and Contemporary Magical Realism

Pojia Tsang is a contemporary Canadian artist based in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia. She specializes in oil painting and created her unique style, which she calls Contemporary Magical Realism.  She was raised in an art-centered home; her father, Ping Tsang, was a professional sculptor who carved styrofoam sculpture for a living , and therefore, she grew up in a home filled with sculptures and collection of artwork. 

A passionate painter and lover of literature, Pojia is deeply inspired by art, literature, film, and animation from different languages and cultures.  

Her inspiration for Contemporary Magical Realism grew from her fascination with Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Nobel Prize-winning novel One Hundred Years of Solitude.  She has long been captivated by visual narratives, literature, films, and animation that explore imagination and blur the boundaries between reality and fantasy.
